Robert Mars

Robert Mars's work is very American. His collages look at what America is known for and some of its classics. His pieces take you back in history to a time before corporate America.

Mars states "My paintings employ layers of color, subtly collaged printed matter from the 1950’s and 1960’s, and stark, black imagery. Remote, indistinct landscapes capture the once poetic, and now nearly lost highway strips of the American past. Formerly the promise of hope and prosperity; these icons are now a sign of desperation and ruin."

I love the colored portions of his pieces. To me the other images look more like screenprints than images cut out of a magazine. It's hard to tell though whether he's painted the entire thing or if it's a painting that looks like a collage.

His work has been exhibited internationally.
